Dear Obama,

Yes, you're the bombarded with a health care policy. And yes, you are faced with a tremendous pressure over the U.S. economy. But, are you aware of the 13 million hungry children here in the US? No one, including yourself has bothered to look at the U.S. population first. Those 20 billion dollars that you gave to Bank of America could have fed each of those kids for a year.

The issues of the hungry and the homeless facing America today are a failure of leadership from the top down. Maybe its time we have a new party called something like, The American Party. I bet you people like Franklin, Jefferson, and Adams would join it. And I could see men like Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy just to name a few leading the charge. Those men focused on America first. America can no longer be the Police to the world, like we are trying so hard to achieve.

It kills to see how everyone is so focused on the economy, every day you can watch any major news network and they will all talk about the same thing; the economy. How come there's no major news story on what's REALLY happening around the poverty level population?, which makes most of the US population, the heart of the U.S. How about the 16,000 homeless people roaming New Orleans? Or the 35.5 million hungry people here in the USA? Or that 17% of all American children are hungry? Those numbers should be the lead news story on every news network in America. We need to worry about what is going on here at home in America and take care of Americans first. Then when we've got that solved we can help out, and reach to other nations. The People, your people, can no longer wait.

Sincerely,
Yareli

  1. Politicians like Obama sweep the issue of poverty under the rug because it presents a less than flattering view of America. Economic flunctuations do affect the people who are destitute. For example, at the height of the Great Depression, 25% of working Americans were unemployed due to the economic rigidity of the gold standard. Today people are better off. Nearly 50% of Americans own their homes and they have some material wealth. I also don't think John Adams would help out the people who are destitute because he was a Federalist who supported the rich white guys.

  2. I definitely agree that the issue of poverty and starvation ought to be addressed more aggressively by the national government. It is amazing how many people go hungry in such a wealthy nation. I understand Obama's goals, but at the same time I am tired of endless dollars being sent to financial institutions that seem unwilling to work for the benefit of ALL the country's inhabitants.

  3. I agree with the fact that America needs to quit worrying about other countries when the real problem is right here in our own backyards. Now we shouldn't completely abandoned countries that truly need our assistance, but taking care of our nation first should be our #1 priority. For those that say there is no real problem in America, go for a walk one day and open your eyes to what is truly happening.
